    Trails

    The Sora Trail winds through dense thickets of willow, balsam poplar, and young spruce forests, as well as meadows teeming with various types of warblers. The trail concludes with a brief boardwalk portion, leading to a viewing platform complete with benches, and an excellent vantage point overlooking the marshes.

    The Bittern Trail has picturesque views accessible from strategically placed benches. The trail descends at the end leading to another viewing platform above iron-rich springs. This site is renowned for being one of the few places where the American Bittern has been spotted in the area.

    Bullmoose Marshes are equipped with wheelchair accessible boardwalks.

    Donations were provided by Ducks Unlimited Canada, Bullmoose Operating Corporation, Ron Colledge of Babcock Mountain Sawmills Ltd, and Brian Baker. The support of Wild Bird Trust of BC, Wonder of Water and TR Ecokids is gratefully acknowledged.

    The Bullmoose Marshes Trails were built in 2003 by volunteers of the Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Society with permission from the Ministry of Forests.

    Birds & Wildlife

    A total of 93 bird species have been identified. Nesting boxes and bird feeders have been put up alongside the trails. Bullmoose Marshes is a sensitive bird nesting area. Hatching season is April to June.

    Mammals include Grizzly Bear, Black Bear, Moose, White-tailed Deer, Mule Deer, Wolf, Coyote, Woodchuck, Red Squirrel, Red-backed Vole, Beaver, and Muskrat. There are many signs of beaver activity including dams, trails, felled trees and lodges.

    Tumbler Ridge and the surrounding area has abundant fauna and is the perfect place for avid amateurs to hone their photographic skills. Chances for wildlife photography are plenty, so charge up your camera battery and let your lens be your guide as you explore this spectacular area.

    Wetlands provide essential habitat for many wildlife and plant species, and are central ecosystems for many others. Please pack out all garbage and leave the trails cleaner than you found them.

DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD

From Tumbler Ridge, turn northwest onto Hwy 29. Drive 24 km to where a hiker sign depicts the site. Turn right (east) and drive 500 m to the trailhead.
