Canadian Geographic - Photographer of the Year
Celebrating Brandon Broderick's Triumph as the 2023 Canadian Photographer of the Year! Hailing from Windsor, Ont., and currently residing in B.C., 37-year-old Brandon Broderick has proven that determination and a passion for ethical wildlife photography can lead to extraordinary achievements. Following his declaration to make a difference, Broderick dedicated the past year to amassing a stunning collection of shots, placing a special emphasis on ethical practices in wildlife photography.
Broderick found inspiration in the captivating landscapes of Tumbler Ridge, where he seized opportunities to photograph his favorite species, especially the elusive Canada lynx. His most fruitful expeditions involved navigating hundreds of kilometers down remote back roads along the Alaska Highway, extending to the Yukon border.
The great outdoors has always held significance for Broderick, stemming from his childhood spent exploring deer trails near his home. His journey into photography blossomed while studying fish and wildlife at college in Lindsay, Ont. During that period, Broderick captured landscapes with a humble three-megapixel Sony point-and-shoot camera. Since then, he has evolved into an accomplished photographer, publishing three captivating coffee table books on Northwest British Columbia and amassing a substantial following on Instagram.
Yet, Broderick remains hungry for more. Not content with past accomplishments, he envisions venturing into new territories. His future plans include initiating grizzly bear photo tours in B.C., showcasing his commitment to ethical wildlife encounters. Broderick aspires to capture dream shots, setting his sights on elusive subjects like polar bears and wolverines.
Brandon Broderick's journey reflects not only a well-deserved accolade but also a continuous pursuit of excellence in the world of wildlife photography. As he looks ahead to the future, there's no doubt that his passion and dedication will continue to inspire both seasoned photographers and budding enthusiasts alike. Congratulations, Brandon Broderick, on this remarkable achievement!
